Today we had the pleasure of taking a tour around Chambèry, The official capital of the Savoie département. We had a tour guide, and although I’ve visited Chambery many times before, today I saw parts that I didn’t know existed. I would definitely recommend a guided tour as many of the hidden gems of this town would be difficult to stumble upon.
The ‘Allées’ which pass under the buildings in the main part of the town (off of La Place Saint Léger are fascinating. I had always thought the tunnels belonged to private houses behind the main streets, but you are free to go into them and explore a hidden Chambery that has real charm.
A tour of the exterior of the Chateau, home to the Ducs de Savoie, and a walk round the many other stunning 14th Century buildings, reveals an ancient town of great architectural beauty and historical interest.
Follow a town tour with an hour in the Musée des Beaux Arts, where you can sit and study any of the ancient paintings without interruption, and then enjoy a coffee in the very stylish cafe below.
